How Antara helped my mother's treatment

How Antara helped my mother's treatment

Back in 2019 when my mother had an accident and underwent emergency surgery, we were left in a tricky situation. We wanted her to have consistent care and nursing at least for a month to ensure that she received all the doctor-recommended treatments at home. But increasing responsibility at work didn’t allow me to look after her as actively as I wanted to.

I had taken almost all of my yearly leaves and found myself overly stressed with this double whammy. Finally, upon the recommendation of another colleague who had gone through something very similar, I reached out to Antara Assisted Living to help me out. I was so delighted with how sensitively and quickly they aided my mother’s recovery that I am happy to share my experience with you.

Reaching Out:

I booked an appointment with them to understand their patient caregiving services. A member of the team reached out to me very soon and we were able to arrange an appointment at my home.

They were very reassuring every step of the way and answered all my questions patiently. Even during the initial check-up with my mom, they made an effort to get to know her and the process was more personal than general hospital treatment.

After this step, I was pretty confident about availing of this service and received my contract with them over the weekend.

Setting Up:

I wanted to spend another day at home making sure my mom was adjusting well and they had everything they needed for the best treatment plan.

This was the first day and involved fumigating our house. I got a chance to have a more detailed talk with them about what her recovery journey will look like and it was extremely reassuring to see the careful planning that had gone into it. This was a step ahead of what the doctor is a must-do and way better than anything I would have done for her myself. But more on this later.

With them, they brought all the personalized medcare equipment that would be necessary. For us, this meant some bathroom accessories, cool packs, back & knee support, and some other monitoring devices. Having this from Day 1 ensured that we would not be left running around looking for things at the last moment. I also didn’t have to spend a lot of time researching the correct tools because they had done all the groundwork for me and gotten me the right equipment from their own stores.

The Treatment

Coming to the actual treatment, my mother took about 2-days to adjust to her nurse. She was extremely friendly and was very disciplined about her arrival at our place. She would come at 9 am sharp and leave only after I was back home.

She listened to my mother as much as she could to ensure that she was comfortable. But she never compromised on the quality of treatment for this. She was surprisingly good at getting my mother to exercise and follow a strict diet plan - things I had been trying for years.

Her approach was very holistic - she would ensure my mother got good sleep and was entertained to not overthink about the treatment. They went on walks in the evenings and tried to do light breathing exercises too. Their goal was not just to help her recover from this surgery but also to make her healthier as a whole.

The nurse even suggested some recipes and made them for her a few times which she loved.

Overall, the initial one month that I had planned was extremely successful and my mother is now as healthy as ever!

Final Remarks

I have come to realize that when it comes to senior care, experience is tremendously important. Antara Senior Living brought that to the table along with human-level care for us.

If you or someone you know is in a similar situation that I was in, I would highly recommend speaking with them and understanding how they can fit your needs. I know that next time anyone I know needs senior care, my mother will be telling them about Antara even before me😂
