Create your own garden without even stepping out of your house
Selecting the right seeds
The first step to growing anything is by planting its seed. But not all seeds grow everywhere. It is important to do a small research of which plant grows best in your location and for your climatic conditions so that you can plan accordingly. It might not be a smart decision to grow apples in a hot sunny region as you would end up watching the empty soil. But there are some crops like beans and tomatoes that grow pretty much anywhere. So, choose your seeds wisely.
Create a home for your plants
Next step, your plant needs a place to grow. If you have an empty soil veranda or ground near your house that would be perfect to start off. You could always recycle old paint cans or buckets for flower pots. For smaller plants, anything from used milk packets to recycled plastic bottles and boxes would do. But do not forget to put holes around any container that you are using as your plant would need an opening to drain out the extra water to prevent it from wilting.
Give your plants their nutrients
Just like you, your plant also needs extra nutrients to grow and nurture properly. You can easily provide these nutrients by making organic manure from your own kitchen waste. If you have a small empty soil space near your house, you can dig it up and use that as your compost pit. You can use any kitchen waste as raw materials like vegetable peels, food remains, and eggshells. Add this to your compost layer by layer. Add some waste followed by some soil, then add another layer of waste followed by some soil. Follow this till the entire pit fills up. Check the pit every few days. When you find no odor or remains of your waste, all of it has degraded and your manure is ready for usage. If you don’t have the space for a compost pit, you could directly add the kitchen waste to the containers you’ve planted. You could also add them to a bucket of water and use that to water your plants at the end of the day.
Just the right amount of water and sun
Every plant has different water and sunlight requirements. Watering more or less than the amount needed could lead your plant to wilt. Similarly, some plants need to be kept right in the sun while some plants grow better in the shade. So, check the right amount of water and sunlight you should give your plant and provide accordingly to maintain healthy growth.
Gardening has a lot of emotions attached to it. It is a great hobby to pick up and is fantastic for your mental health. With the pandemic leaving you clueless on what you should do with all your time indoors, this could be a great activity for you. The happiness you get when you witness your first seed sprouting out is just magical. It’s almost like nurturing your own child. Gardening is a pleasure everyone should experience. So, Happy planting!
